How To Simplify Your Life: 8 Mindful Ways To Enjoy Life More — 14 Comments

  1. Yeah, I wonder what he would have achieved if he were starting out today – much more because of all the possibilities & advances in technology, or less because of significantly more noise and competition… probably the former.

Thanks for checking out the other articles, I hope you liked what you saw.

    • Thanks Ludvig!

Mindfulness is indeed very simple but also amazingly powerful (I’ve written lots of articles about it here).

yep, I think Da Vinci was one of the first to say sophistication is the ultimate simplicity, then Jobs repeated it in several speeches about apple products – who could argue with those two?

      • Yes and I’ve read some of them now!

I am of the same understanding. Da Vinci was an incredible guy. I’ve looked through many pages of his commonplace book. He seemed to be talented at just about everything!

  2. Lol …. the french is ok, the german has practically gone, (that said I ended up speaking both when I was in Portugal last year!).

No, I got made redundant from Barclays in July and my gardening leave finished in September. A friend of mine thought it would be a good idea to start up a company to look at IT risk and security as there seems to be a gap in the market. I have Nicki and a guy called Alan marketing stuff at the moment, we’ll see what comes of it, but I need a job before I run out of money.

I’ve definitely found my niche though, I love payments. It’s the best fun you can have with your clothes on. Board members screaming at you when you have thousands of transactions stuck, worth billions and only 10 minutes to cut-off …… been there hundreds of times, and I’ve only failed a couple of times. You can’t buy that kind of adrenaline. 🙂

    • That plus people smashing the windows of your office building.

      … what a rush.

I did take a look at your website – sounds like a good little niche. Best of luck with it.

And if you want to make your huge stashes of money go further (apart from ditching all of those excesses) you can always follow some of the outstanding, brilliant, second to none advice on our website…

or at least leave us a few more sarky comments 😉

    • Hey Gabriel!!

      Thanks for the comment.

yep – that’s the right idea! You wouldn’t believe how many people don’t simply enjoy their food! (on that subject check out this article on Mindful Eating) And it’s so much better for you. Because we’re all in a rush so much of the time.

but – there’s really no need to be. Really.

Use vinegar instead of salt is a good one – why is that (apart from too much salt being bad for you)?

Don’t think too far in the future – sure, absolutely – couldn’t agree more!!

    • Very good Pete!

I’m not sure I could really persuade you to get rid of all of the excesses in your life… could I?

I hope all is well with you & your family anyways!!

Say hi to Nikki from me!

      very best wishes,
      Alan

        • I’m having so much fun I can’t begin to tell you.

It really is a different life. Kids have gone from a massive private school to small village school just 2 mins walk down the lane. We now know everyone in the village and get involved in lots of festivals etc… quality of life is really excellent, we eat really well, have lots of time to do whatever we want, get out loads and enjoy the countryside…

well, you guys should come and visit and see for yourselves!!

I think when you’re a successful businessman such as yourself, they call that a ‘retreat’ 😉

            • No we don’t, we moved to the Peak District planning to enjoy the UK for 1 year before moving to France, but we love the life here so much we now plan to stay until the kid have left home (then we’ll split our time between here and France).

you can read all about it here.

Good to see your French is still there,

Have you changed your career path?
