Brain Training: Everyday Stretch Routine… For Your Brain — 3 Comments

  1. Hi Alan,

My daughter recently sent me an article describing how taking dance lessons is good for the brain. She sent it to me because my hubby and I began taking performance dance lessons about a month ago. Our instructor is college age, my hubby will turn 70 in August and I will be 62 in the same month. We adore our instructor and we attend the weekly lessons enthusiastically. Do we dance well? Not on your life! But boy are we having fun. And, perhaps we’re treating ourselves to more than just physical exercise.

    • Hi Yvonne,

You definitely get more that a toned body when you dance. Exercisers learn faster, remember more, think clearer and bounce back more easily from brain injuries, such as a stroke. That’s because your brain gets more oxygen when you exercise but also it is thought that exercise induces mild stress, which triggers the brain to protect against neuron damage.

You’ve just proven there’s no age limit to start exercising. Well done and keep on dancing!!

      Best wishes
      Isabelle

      • Thanks Isabelle,

We are having fun with the dance class. Just wish we were better at remembering the steps. LOL
